MOTOR VEHICLES (REGISTRATION OF IMPORTERS) ACT, 1968 (DEFINITION OF MOTOR VEHICLE) REGULATIONS, 1973.

I, PATRICK J. LALOR, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (2) of the motor Vehicles (Registration of Importers) Act, 1968 (No. 15 of 1968), hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Registration of Importers) Act, 1968 (Definition of Motor Vehicle) Regulations, 1973.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 10th day of January, 1973.

3. The definition of "motor vehicle" in section 1 (1) of the motor Vehicles (Registration of Importers) Act, 1968 (No. 15 of 1968), is hereby extended by the insertion after "such tractor" of the following:

"and also includes such a mechanically propelled vehicle in the form of a complete or substantially complete aggregate of used parts which are classified as knocked down under the Imposition of Duties (No. 200) (Customs Duties and Form of Customs Tariff) Order, 1972 ( S.I. No. 220 of 1972 )".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of these regulations is to channel imports of used vehicles in knocked down condition through firms registered for the importation of fully built-up vehicles.
