RETAIL PRICE (FOOD) DISPLAY ORDER, 1972.

I, PATRICK J. LALOR, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 19 of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Retail Price (Food) Display Order, 1972.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of July, 1972.

3. Every person who carries on in the State the business of selling by retail any commodity mentioned in the Schedule to this Order shall exhibit a notice at the shop, vehicle or other place where the business is carried on and the notice shall—

(a) specify every commodity mentioned in the Schedule to this Order which is on sale at the shop, vehicle or other place,

(b) specify opposite the mention of each such commodity (other than oranges), the retail price (calculated by reference to the number or the unit of weight, as the case may be, specified in the Schedule to this Order opposite the mention of that commodity therein) charged at the shop, vehicle or other place for the commodity, or, if the commodity is a commodity mentioned in Part II of the said Schedule, for each brand of the commodity on sale as aforesaid,

(c) specify, opposite the mention of the retail price of each such commodity (other than oranges), the number or the unit of weight, as the case may be, specified in the said Schedule opposite the mention of that commodity therein, and

(d) if oranges are mentioned in the notice—

(i) specify opposite the mention of oranges, the retail prices (calculated by reference to the number and the unit of weight specified in the said Schedule opposite the mention of oranges therein) charged at the shop, vehicle or other place for oranges, and

(ii) specify opposite the mention of the retail prices of oranges the number and the unit of weight specified in the said Schedule opposite the mention of oranges therein.

4. A notice exhibited pursuant to Article 3 of this Order shall—

(a) if it is at a shop, be in such a position as to be clearly visible and easily accessible to all persons frequenting the shop before or immediately after entering the shop, and

(b) if it is at a vehicle or other place referred to in the said Article 3, be in such a position as to be clearly visible and easily accessible to all persons in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle or other place, as the case may be.

5. A notice exhibited pursuant to Article 3 of this Order shall be in such form as to be capable of being easily read by all persons frequenting the shop, vehicle or other place at which it is so exhibited and the letters and figures on the notice shall be at least three millimetres in height and of proportionate width.

6. The Retail Price (Food) Display Order, 1963 ( S.I. No. 218 of 1963 ), is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order requires every person who carries on the business of selling by retail any of the commodities set out in the Schedule to the Order to display in a specified manner the retail price charged by him for each such commodity.
