SOCIAL WELFARE (INVALIDITY PENSION) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 1972.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952) and section 25c of the said Act (inserted therein by section 6 of the Social Welfare Act, 1970 (No. 12 of 1970), hereby makes the following Regulations :—

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Invalidity Pension) (Amendment) Regulations, 1972.

(2) In these Regulations—

" the Principal Regulations " means the Social Welfare (Invalidity Pension) Regulations, 1970 ( S.I. No. 218 of 1970 ) ;

" the Minister " means the Minister for Social Welfare.

(3) These Regulations and the Principal Regulations may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Invalidity Pension) Regulations 1970 and 1972.

2. Any reasonable and necessary travelling and other expenses incurred by a person claiming or in receipt of invalidity pension, who is required under the Rules of Behaviour set out in the Schedule to the Principal Regulations to attend for medical or other examination, may be paid by the Minister who shall determine in any particular case what is a reasonable and necessary amount of expenses.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Rules of Behaviour for a person claiming or in receipt of invalidity pension, which are set out in the Schedule to the Social Welfare (Invalidity Pension) Regulations, 1970 ( S.I. No. 218 of 1970 ), include a provision that the person shall submit himself for medical or other examination at such time or place as may be specified if the Minister, on giving not less than seven clear days notice in writing, requests him to do so. These Regulations give power for the payment of any reasonable and necessary travelling or other expenses incurred by a person in such circumstances.
