ROAD TRAFFIC (SPEED LIMITS) (COUNTY OF LAOIGHIS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1972.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 46 of the said Act as amended by section 6 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968 (No. 25 of 1968) hereby makes the following Regulations :—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Laoighis) (Amendment) Regulations, 1972.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of February, 1972.

3. In these Regulations the " Principal Regulations " means the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Laoighis) Regulations, 1968 ( S.I. No. 42 of 1968 ).

4. The First Schedule to the Principal Regulations is hereby amended as follows:—

(i) by the deletion at reference 1 (a) of " New Road ",

(ii) by the deletion of the matter at reference 1 (c),

(iii) by the substitution at reference 1 (f) of " 250 " for " 150 ",

(iv) by the substitution at reference 2 (c) of " 130 " for " 35 ",

(v) by the deletion of the matter at reference 2 (d).

5. The Second Schedule to the Principal Regulations is hereby amended as follows :—

(i) by the addition of the following references—

" 13. The following roads at Borris-in-Ossory.

(a) The Dublin-Limerick road between a point 120 yards east of its junction with the Rathdowney Road and a point 140 yards west of its junction with the Skeirke Road.

(b) The Rathdowney Road for a distance of 100 yards from its junction with the Dublin-Limerick road.

(c) The Skerike Road for a distance of 100 yards from its junction with the Dublin-Limerick road.

(d) The Mondrehid or Rock Road for a distance of 50 yards north-west of its junction with the Dublin-Limerick road.

14. The following roads at The Swan:—

(a) The Abbeyleix-Carlow road between a point 20 yards north of its junction with the Clogh- Wolfhill road and a point 600 yards south of that junction.

(b) The Clogh Road for a distance of 70 yards from the Abbeyleix-Carlow road.

(c) The Wolfhill Road for a distance of 30 yards from the Abbeyleix-Carlow road.",

(ii) by the substitution at reference 1 (b) and 1 (e) of " Rathdowney Road " for " Station road ",

(iii) by the substitution at reference 1 (d) of " Carlow Road " Road " for " Ballinakill Road ",

(iv) by the substitution for the matter at reference 5 (a) of

" (a) The Mountmellick-Birr road between a point 5 yards west of its junction with the Cut Road and a point 270 yards north-west of its junction with the Tullamore Road.",

(v) by the substitution for the matter at reference 7 of

" 7. The following roads adjacent to the town of Mountmellick : —

(a) The Tullamore Road for a distance of 290 yards from the boundary of the town of Mountmellick.

(b) The Birr Road for a distance of 350 yards from the Boundary of the town of Mountmellick.",

(vi) by the substitution at reference 8 (b) of " 250 " for " 120 " where that figure occurs for the second time,

(vii) by the substitution at reference 8 (g) of " 550 " for " 50 ",

(viii) by the substitution at reference 11 (f) of " 945 " for "370".

6. The Third Schedule to the Principal Regulations is hereby amended as follows:—

(i) by the addition of the following references—

" 7. The following roads at Abbeyleix:—

(a) The Portlaoighise Road between a point 105 yards north of its junction with the Ballyroan Road and a point 505 yards north of that junction.

(b) The Carlow Road from a point 490 yards from its junction with the Portlaoighise-Cork road to a point 250 yards east of its junction with the Ballinakill Road.

(c) The Ballinakill Road for a distance of 270 yards from its junction with the Carlow Road.

(d) The Ballyroan Road between a point 250 yards from its junction with the Portlaoighise-Cork road and a point 750 yards from that junction.

(e) The Rathdowney Road between a point 75 yards from its junction with the Portlaoighise-Cork road and a point 800 yards from that junction.

(f) The Mountrath Road from a point 10 yards south-east of its junction with the Tullyroe Road to a point 460 yards north-west of that junction.

8. The following road at Arles:—

The Carlow-Portlaoighise road between a point 100 yards north of the intersection of the common boundary of the townland of Rathillig and Ballynagall and and a point 880 yards north of that intersecting point.

9. The following roads at Cullohill:—

(a) The Dublin-Cork road between a point 325 yards north-east of its junction with the Rathdowney Road and a point 225 yards south-west of the said junction.

(b) The Graigueavoice Road between its junction with the Dublin-Cork road and a point 10 yards south-east of its junction with the road connecting the Graigueavoice Road with the Dublin-Cork road.

(c) The road connecting the Graigueavoice Road with the Dublin-Cork road.

(d) The Rathdowney Road for a distance of 60 yards from its junction with the Dublin-Cork road.

10. The following road at Durrow : —

The Cork Road between a point 450 yards south-west of the junction of Patrick Street and Oldchapel Street and a point 810 yards south-west of that junction.",

(ii) by the substitution at reference 1 of " 140 " for " 100 ",

(iii) by the substitution at reference 2 (a) of " 50 yards south-west of its junction with the Milltown Road " for " 270 yards south-west of its junction with the Castletown Road ",

(iv) by the addition of the following matter at reference 2

" (f) The Milltown Road for a distance of 170 yards from its junction with the Castlecomer-Athy road.",

(v) by the deletion of the matter at reference 3,

(vi) by the substitution at reference 5 (a) of " 250 " and " 655 " for " 120 " and " 420 " respectively,

(vii) by the substitution at reference 5 (b) of " 600 " for " 500 ",

(viii) by the substitution at reference 6 (b) of " 190 yards north east of the junction of the Dublin Road with Collier's Lane " for " 1395 yards north-east of the said boundary ",

(ix) by the substitution for the matter at reference 6 (c) of—

" (c) The Mountmellick Road for a distance of 340 yards from the point where the town boundary intersects the western side of the road.",

(x) by the substitution at reference 6 (d) of " 420 " for " 100 ",

(xi) by the addition of the following matter at reference 6—

" (e) The Mountrath Road between a point 150 yards west of the intersection of the town boundary with the southern side of the road and a point 30 yards east of the junction of that road with the Ballyfin Road."

7. The Fourth Schedule to the Principal Regulations is hereby deleted.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Laoighis) Regulations, 1968 and alter the speed limits applicable to certain roads in the County Laoighis.
