TELEPHONE (AMENDMENT) (NO. 2) REGULATIONS, 1971.

I, GERARD COLLINS, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885, hereby make, with the consent of the Minister for Finance, the following regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Telephone (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1971.

(2) The collective citation the Telephone Regulations, 1959 to 1971, shall include these Regulations.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1971.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

4. The Telephone Regulations, 1959 ( S.I. No. 118 of 1959 ), shall be amended by:

(a) the substitution of the following for the Second Schedule, as amended by Regulation 5 (g) of the Telephone (Amendment) Regulations, 1968 ( S.I. No. 274 of 1968 ), and Regulation 5 (s) of the Telephone (Amendment) Regulations, 1971 ( S.I. No. 63 of 1971 ):

"SECOND SCHEDULE

Charges for Subscriber Dialled Trunk Calls.

In respect of each period or part of a period of time specified in the Table to this Schedule which is appropriate to the call and during which the call continues—

(a) the sum of 1.66p shall be charged to a subscriber without a coinbox,

(b) the sum of 2p shall be paid by a caller from a call office, and

(c) the sum of 2p shall be placed in the coinbox where the call is made from a coinbox exchange line.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of these regulations is to amend the Telephone Regulations 1959 to 1971 to provide for the replacement of the existing charges for trunk calls to Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands by flat rates of charge as follows:—

Operator Controlled Calls from non-coinbox exchange lines.

(1) Replacement of the existing day rates of 20p, 30p and 33p by a single rate of 30p.

(2) Replacement of the existing night rates of 16p, 20p and 22p by a single rate of 20p.

Operator Controlled Calls from a Call Office or from a coinbox exchange line.

(1) Replacement of the existing day rates of 22p, 32p and 36p by a single rate of 32p.

(2) Replacement of the existing night rates of 18p, 22p and 25p by a single rate of 22p.

Note: In the case of subscriber dialled trunk calls the time allowed for one local call fee will be—

10 seconds between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

15 seconds between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m.
