DECIMAL CURRENCY ACT, 1969 (APPOINTMENT OF DAY FOR THE PURPOSES OF SECTION 2 (2)) ORDER, 1971.

I, SEOIRSE Ó COLLA, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 (2) of the Decimal Currency Act, 1969 (No. 23 of 1969), hereby make the following order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Decimal Currency Act, 1969 (Appointment of Day for the Purposes of Section 2 (2)) Order, 1971.

2. The 1st day of January, 1972 is hereby appointed as the day for the purposes of section 2 (2) of the Decimal Currency Act, 1969 (No. 23 of 1969).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order terminates, with effect from 1 January 1972, the period of changeover to the £-new penny decimal system of currency. This transition period commenced on decimal day 15 February, 1971, with the introduction of that system. On and after the date appointed by this Order, where a sum of money in the old currency is due for payment the amount payable in respect of so much of it as is in shillings or pence shall be determined in accordance with section 13 of the Decimal Currency Act, 1970 .
