FOREIGN ANIMALS ORDER OF 1931 (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1970.

I, JAMES GIBBONS, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 , 10 and 30 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), for the prevention of the spreading of disease, hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Foreign Animals Order of 1931 (Amendment) Order, 1970.

2. In this Order " the Principal Order " means the Foreign Animals Order of 1931, ( S. R. & O. No. 9 of 1931 ).

3. The following provisions shall have effect in relation to the Principal Order—

( a ) Article 2 shall be amended by the addition of " or to any animal which is to be landed under and in accordance with a licence granted under the Importation of Livestock Order, 1970 ( S.I. No. 296 of 1970 ) ",

( b ) each reference therein to a port shall be construed and have effect as if it included a reference to an airport,

( c ) each reference therein to a vessel shall be construed and have effect as if it included a reference to an aircraft, and

( d ) in Article 3 (6) (iv) " thoroughly mixed with quicklime and thereafter without delay be destroyed by fire on board the vessel, or " is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Foreign Animals Order of 1931 applies restrictions in relation to the bringing of animals into a port in the State from any country other than a scheduled country. This Order extends the provisions of the Foreign Animals Order of 1931 to apply to airports and aircraft and also excepts from the provisions of that Order, as amended by this Order, any animal to be landed under a licence granted under the Importation of Livestock Order, 1970 ( S.I. No. 296 of 1970 ).
