SOCIAL WELFARE (MODIFICATIONS OF INSURANCE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1970.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952) and by section 12 of the said Act as amended by section 8 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1968 (No. 31 of 1968) hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1970.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 to 1968 shall be construed together as one and may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations 1956 to 1970.

2. Sub-article (1) of Article 5 of the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 (No. 236 of 1956) is hereby amended by the addition of the following subparagraph: —

" (i) employment by the Board of Governors of Saint Laurence's Hospital being a voluntary hospital to which grants are paid from the Hospitals Trust Fund in recoupment of revenue deficits where the person employed is a pensionable person for the purposes of the Saint Laurence's Hospital Superannuation Scheme, 1970, and is employed in a permanent capacity and the terms and conditions of his employment provide for payments during illness on a basis which is considered adequate by the Minister ".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 ( S.I. No. 236 of 1956 ) so as to provide for the application as from 14 October 1970, of the reduced rates of employment contributions giving title to widows' (contributory) pension and orphans' (contributory) allowance to persons who are pensionable under the Saint Laurence's Hospital Superannuation Scheme, 1970, and who are employed in a permanent capacity by the Board of Governors of Saint Laurence's Hospital.
