ROAD TRAFFIC (CONSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT AND USE OF VEHICLES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1970.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 11 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations, 1970.

(2) The Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 to 1969 and these Regulations shall be construed as one and may be cited together as the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 to 1970.

(3) In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 ( S.I. No. 190 of 1963 ).

2. Article 11 of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended as follows—

( a ) by the insertion after the word "to" in sub-article (1) of that article of the words "sub-article 1 (A) and", and

( b ) by the insertion after sub-article (1) of the following subarticle—"1 (A) The overall length of a large public service vehicle shall not exceed 12 metres".

3. Article 62 of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the deletion of sub-article (1).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 so as to provide for an increase in the permissible length of large public service vehicles and for removal of a requirement related to steering in the case of large public service vehicles.
