EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations replace the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Monaghan) Regulations, 1967, ( S.I. No. 30 of 1967 ) and alter the speed limits applicable to certain roads in County Monaghan.

The Regulations exclude the public roads mentioned in the First Schedule from the scope of the built up area speed limit of 30 m.p.h. prescribed by section 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 thus enabling a special speed limit of 40 m.p.h. to be applied to some of these roads.

The Regulations declare that the roads mentioned in the Second Schedule, which would otherwise be outside the scope of the built-up area speed limit of 30 m.p.h., shall be subject to that limit.

The Regulations prescribe a speed limit of 40 m.p.h. in respect of the public roads mentioned in the Third Schedule.

Ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and Garda Síochána vehicles while being used in the course of duty are excepted from all speed limits by the Regulations.
