TELEPHONE (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1969.

I, PATRICK J. LALOR, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885, and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the following regulations :—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Telephone (Amendment) Regulations, 1969.

(2) The Telephone Regulations, 1959 to 1968, and these Regulations may be cited together as the Telephone Regulations, 1959 to 1969.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 13th day of October, 1969.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

4. (1) Regulation 5 of the Telephone Regulations, 1959 ( S.I. No. 118 of 1959 ), shall be amended as follows :—

(a) in paragraph (2) (b), as amended by Regulation 4 (a) of the Regulations of 1965, " fivepence " is hereby substituted for " three pence halfpenny ";

(b) in paragraph (3) (a), as amended by Regulation 4 (b) of the Regulations of 1965, " sixpence " is hereby substituted for " fourpence "; and

(c) in paragraph (3) (b), as amended by Regulation 4 (c) of the Regulations of 1965, " sixpence " is hereby substituted for " fourpence ".

(2) In this Regulation " the Regulations of 1965 " means the Telephone (Amendment) Regulations, 1965 ( S.I. No. 33 of 1965 ).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of these Regulations is to amend the Telephone Regulations, 1959, and the Telephone (Amendment) Regulations, 1965, to provide for the following increases in local call charges:—

(1) Increase in the charge to the renter of a coinbox exchange line from 3 ½d. to 5d.

(2) Increase in the amount charged to the caller from a coinbox exchange line or public telephone from 4d. to 6d.
