CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (WEFT WINDING) (EXCLUSION) REGULATIONS, 1968.

I, P.S. Ó h-Irighile, Minister for Labour, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 29 and 52 of the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 (No. 2 of 1936), and the Labour (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1966 ( S.I. No. 164 of 1966 ), and after consultation with representatives of employers interested in the form of industrial work specified in the following regulations and with representatives of workers so interested, hereby make the following regulations :

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Conditions of Employment (Weft Winding) (Exclusion) Regulations, 1968.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

3. The following form of industrial work, namely weft winding as operated at the premises of Robert Usher & Co., Limited, in Drogheda is hereby declared to be excluded industrial work for the purpose of sections 38 and 46 of the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 (No. 2 of 1936).

4. The following provisions shall have effect in relation to the hours of work worked by workers employed to do the industrial work specified in these Regulations :

(a) no such worker, whether a man or a woman, shall continue such work—

(i) after 8 p.m. on an ordinary working day, or

(ii) in any week after such worker has completed 48 hours' work in that week;

(b) no such worker, if a man, shall continue such work after 1 p.m. on a short working day;

(c) no such worker, if a woman, shall—

(i) commence such work before 7 a.m. on any day, or

(ii) continue such work on an ordinary working day after such worker has completed 12 hours work on that day.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 , provides that no adult female worker, may commence work before 8 a.m. or continue work in any working day when such worker has completed 9 hours work on that day. The purpose of these Regulations is to permit female adult workers to commence work at 7 a.m. and to work 12 hours per day on Weft Winding at the premises of Robert Usher and Co. Ltd., in Drogheda.
