ROAD TRAFFIC (SPEED LIMITS) (COUNTY OF LEITRIM) REGULATIONS, 1968.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 , 45 and 46 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and as respects article 7 after consultation with the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána and the road authority concerned and as respects article 5 on the application of the said Commissioner hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1 Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Leitrim) Regulations, 1968.

2 Commencement.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of February, 1968.

3 Interpretation.

3. In these Regulations save where the context otherwise requires

"the Act" means the Road Traffic Act, 1961 ;

"road" means a public road;

"special speed limit" and "built-up area speed limit" have the meanings respectively assigned to them in Part IV of the Act;

"distance" means distance as measured along the centre line of a road.

4 Built-up area speed limit.

4. Each of the roads described in the First Schedule to these Regulations is hereby declared to be a public road in a built-up area for the purposes of section 45 of the Act.

5 Special speed limit.

5. Forty miles per hour shall be the speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on the roads specified in the Second Schedule to these Regulations.

6 Exceptions.

6. There shall be excepted from the special speed limit prescribed in article 5 of these Regulations and from the built-up area speed limit the following :—

(a) ambulances,

(b) fire brigade vehicles, and

(c) vehicles used by members of the Garda Síochána in the performance of their duties as such members.

7 Revocation.

7. Articles 5 and 6 of the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) Regulations, 1963 ( S.I. No. 18 of 1963 ) in so far as they relate to roads in the County of Leitrim are hereby revoked.

FIRST SCHEDULE

Roads declared to be public roads in a built-up area for the purposes of section 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 .

1. The following roads at Ballinamore: —

(a) Lahard Cottages Road.

(b) The Carrick-on-Shannon-Cavan road between a point 550 yards west of its junction with Church Lane and a point 320 yards north-east of its junction with the Swanlinbar Road.

(c) The Swanlinbar Road for a distance of 190 yards from its junction with the Carrick-on-Shannon-Cavan road.

(d) The Willowfield Road for a distance of 50 yards from its junction with the Carrick-on-Shannon-Cavan road.

(e) Chapel Lane for a distance of 280 yards from its junction with the Carrick-on-Shannon-Cavan road.

(f) Church Lane for a distance of 400 yards from its junction with the Carrick-on-Shannon-Cavan road.

(g) The Aughnasheelin Road for a distance of 20 yards from its junction with Church Lane.

2. The following roads at Carrick-on-Shannon:—

(a) Church Lane, Curry Lane, The Quay, Quay Road, Priest's Lane, St. George's Terrace, St. Patrick's Park.

(b) The Longford-Sligo road between a point 270 yards south-east of its junction with Gallows or Summer Hill and the boundary between the counties of Leitrim and Roscommon at Carrick-on-Shannon Bridge.

(c) The Lisnagot Road for a distance of 210 yards from its junction with Curry Lane.

(d) The Leitrim Road for a distance of 240 yards from its junction with the Longford-Sligo road.

(e) Gallows or Summer Hill for a distance of 520 yards from its junction with the Longford-Sligo road.

(f) Carty's Lane for a distance of 50 yards from its junction with Gallows or Summer Hill.

3. The following roads at Drumshanbo:—

(a) High Street, Rockwell Terrace, School Street, Main Street.

(b) The Carrick-on-Shannon Road for a distance of 325 yards south-west of its junction with Main Street.

(c) Church Street and its continuation as the Manorhamilton Road for a distance of 330 yards from the junction of Church Street with Chapel Street.

(d) Chapel Street for a distance of 290 yards from its junction with the Manorhamilton-Carrick-on-Shannon road.

(e) The Dowra Road for a distance of 80 yards from its junction with Chapel Street.

(f) The Ballinamore Road for a distance of 310 yards from its junction with Main Street.

(g) The Drumkeelan Road for a distance of 180 yards from its junction with Main Street.

(h) The Corryard Road for a distance of 25 yards from its junction with the Drumkeelan Road.

4. The following roads at Kinlough:—

(a) The Manorhamilton-Bundoran road between a point 45 yards south-west of its junction with the Cloonty Road and a point 40 yards north of its junction with the Rossinver Road.

(b) The Cloonty Road for a distance of 50 yards from its junction with the Manorhamilton-Bundoran road.

(c) The Cloone Road for a distance of 65 yards from its junction with the Manorhamilton-Bundoran road.

(d) The Rossinver Road for a distance of 60 yards from its junction with the Manorhamilton-Burdoran road.

5. The following roads at Manorhamilton:—

(a) Boley Hill, Boley Hill Cottages Road, The Commons, Cemetery Road, Church Lane, Main Street, Old Church Street, St. Patrick's Terrace, The New Line.

(b) Castle Street for a distance of 190 yards from its junction with the Bundoran Road.

(c) The Bundoran Road for a distance of 245 yards from its junction with Castle Street.

(d) The Sligo Road for a distance of 270 yards from its junction with Main Street.

(e) The Carrick-on-Shannon Road for a distance of 290 yards from its junction with Main Street.

(f) The Enniskillen Road for a distance of 60 yards from its junction with Boley Hill.

(g) Bee Park Road for a distance of 60 yards from its junction with the New Line.

(h) Rossinver Road for a distance of 110 yards from its junction with Castle Street.

6. The following roads at Mohill: —

(a) Castle Street, Causey Street, Glebe Street, Hyde Terrace, Main Street, Water Street.

(b) Hill Street for a distance of 240 yards from its junction with Main Street.

(c) Station Road and its continuation as the Cloone Road between the junction of Station Road with Hill Street and a point 150 yards south-east of the junction of the Cloone Road with the Drumlish Road.

(d) The Drumlish Road for a distance of 30 yards from its junction with the Cloone Road.

(e) Hyde Street for a distance of 400 yards from its junction with Main Street.

(f) The Carrick-on-Shannon Road between its junction with Main Street and a point 110 yards west of its junction with Treanmore Road.

(g) Treanmore Road for a distance of 60 yards south of its junction with the Carrick-on-Shannon Road.

(h) Chapel Lane between its junction with Main Street and a point 120 yards west of its junction with Convent Lane.

(i ) The road leading from Chapel Lane to the Carrick-on-Shannon Road at Treanmore Cross.

(j) Convent Lane for a distance of 170 yards from its junction with Chapel Lane.

(k) The Green Road for a distance of 50 yards from its junction with Water Street.

SECOND SCHEDULE

Roads in respect of which a special speed limit of 40 miles per hour is prescribed.

1. The following road at Carrick-on-Shannon: —

The Longford Road between a point 270 yards south-east of its junction with Gallows or Summer Hill and a point 50 yards north-east of its junction with Weighbridge Road.

2. The following roads at Dromod:—

(a) Quay Street.

(b) The Carrick-on-Shannon-Longford road between a point 195 yards north of its junction with the Mohill Road and a point 150 yards south of the said junction.

(c) The Mohill Road for a distance of 80 yards from its junction with the Carrick-on-Shannon-Longford road.

3. The following roads at Drumsna:—

(a) Quay Road.

(b) The Sligo-Dublin road for a distance of 310 yards north-eastwards from the boundary between the counties of Leitrim and Roscommon at Drumona Bridge.

(c) The road to Curnacarter Bridge for a distance of 60 yards from its junction with Quay Road.

4. The following road at Jamestown:—

The Sligo-Dublin road between a point 185 yards south of its junction with Jamestown Arch and a point 190 yards north-west of the said junction.

5. The following roads at Leitrim:—

(a) The Carrick-on-Shannon-Drumshanbo road between a point 150 yards north of its junction with the Keadue Road and a point 150 yards south of its junction with Chapel Road.

(b) The Keadue Road for a distance of 150 yards from its junction with the Carrick-on-Shannon-Drumshanbo road.

(c) Chapel Road for a distance of 50 yards from its junction with the Carrick-on-Shannon-Drumshanbo road.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations replace the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) Regulations, 1963 and 1965, in their application to the County of Leitrim and alter the speed limits applicable to certain roads in this area.

The Regulations declare the public roads mentioned in the First Schedule to be subject to the built-up area speed limit prescribed by section 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 .

The Regulations also prescribe a speed limit of 40 miles per hour in respect of the public roads mentioned in the Second Schedule for all mechanically propelled vehicles.

Ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and Garda Síochána vehicles while being used in the course of duty are excepted from all speed limits by the Regulations.
