ROAD TRAFFIC (CONSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT AND USE OF VEHICLES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1967.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the power conferred on him by sections 5 and 11 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations, 1967.

(2) These Regulations and the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 and 1965 shall be construed as one and may be cited together as the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 to 1967.

2. The following sub-article is hereby substituted for sub-article (2) of article 80 of the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 ( S.I. No. 190 of 1963 ):—

"(2) In calculating the number of passengers being carried on a vehicle, the number of children who are passengers shall be reduced by one-third if—

(a) the children are under the age of fifteen and not less than three such children are being carried, or

(b) the vehicle is for the time being used exclusively for the carriage of passengers who are children going to or coming from school."

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These regulations amend article 80 (2) of the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963, so as to provide that in calculating the number of passengers on school buses on the basis of 3 children to 2 adults the upper age limit of 15 years shall not apply.
