STATISTICS (CENSUS OF DISTRIBUTION AND SERVICES) ORDER, 1967.

The Taoiseach, in pursuance of the powers conferred by section 16 of the Statistics Act, 1926 (No. 12 of 1926), and the Statistics Acts, 1926 and 1946 (Transfer of Ministerial Functions) Order, 1949 ( S.I. No. 142 of 1949 ), hereby orders as follows:—

1. Statistics in respect of the year 1966 relating to undertakings carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services shall be collected in the year 1967 of the several matters set out in Part I of the Schedule hereto.

2. The following are the classes of persons by whom returns are to be made or information is to be given for the purpose of the said statistics, that is to say, every person carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services on whom a sufficient requisition under section 8 (1) of the Statistics Act, 1926 , is made.

3. The forms to be used in the collection of the said statistics shall be the forms indicated in Part II of the Schedule hereto, a set of which, sealed with the Official Seal of the Taoiseach, has been deposited in the Department of the Taoiseach.

4. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

5. This Order may be cited as the Statistics (Census of Distribution and Services) Order, 1967.

SCHEDULE

PART I

The subject matter of this Part relates (save where the context otherwise requires) to the year 1966.

For all establishments—

(a) Identification particulars of establishment.

(b) Particulars of turnover or receipts from service activity.

(c) Wages and salaries paid.

(d) Number of persons working in the business in the week ended 23 April, 1966.

In addition to (a) to (d) above—

(e) (i) for Auctioneers and Estate Agents :— Advertising expenditure.

(ii) for Bookmakers :— payments made and accounts receivable.

(iii) for Cinemas and Theatres : — payments made, stocks at the begining and the end of the year, changes in fixed capital assets and particulars of seating capacity and numbers of admissions and performances.

(iv) for Hotels and Guesthouses :— purchases, stocks at the beginning and end of the year, number of guest registrations and guest-nights, number of persons working in the business in the weeks ended 22 January, 1966, 23rd July, 1966, and 22 October, 1966 and for establishments with 20 or more guest bedrooms, accounts receivable, promotional expenses and changes in fixed capital assets.

(v) for Agents and Representatives : — purchases, stocks at the beginning and end of the year and accounts receivable.

(vi) for Retail and Wholesale Trading and Other Service establishments not covered in (i) to (v) above :— purchases, stocks at the beginning and end of the year and for establishments with total sales of £10,000 or more, hire purchase sales, accounts receivable, advertising and transport expenses, changes in fixed capital assets, the selling space and the number of vehicles owned on the 1st August, 1966.

Agents and Representatives.

All other undertakings carrying on a Retail or Wholesale distribution of goods or providing Services.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of this instrument is to enable a Census of Distribution and Services to be taken relating to the year 1966, to define its scope and to require that returns be furnished to the Central Statistics Office covering all undertakings in respect of which the prescribed forms have been issued.
