S.I. No. 12 of 1967.

WATERFORD COUNTY BOROUGH ELECTORAL AREAS ORDER, 1967.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers vested in him by section 6 of the Waterford City Management Act, 1939 (No. 25 of 1939) as substituted by section 87 of the Electoral Act, 1963 (No. 19 of 1963), hereby orders as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Waterford County Borough Electoral Areas Order, 1967.

2. In this Order " the Borough " means the county borough of Waterford.

3. The Borough shall be divided into the electoral areas set out in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

4. (1) Each such electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the schedule to this Order opposite the name of such electoral area.

(2) In the Schedule to this Order—

(a) " the Order of 1955 " means the County Borough of Waterford (Extension of Boundary) Provisional Order, 1955, as confirmed by the Local Government Provisional Orders Confirmation Act, 1955 (No. 1 (Private) of 1955);

(b) " the Order of 1966 " means the County Borough of Waterford (Extension of Boundary) Provisional Order, 1966, as confirmed by the Local Government Provisional Order Confirmation Act, 1966 (No. 1 (Private) of 1966);

(c) a reference to a line drawn along any street, road or walk shall be construed as a reference to a line drawn along the centre of such street, road or walk;

(d) a reference to the point at which a road or street joins a ward boundary shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the centre of the road or street joins the said boundary;

(e) a reference to the point at which any street, road or walk joins any street, road or walk shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the centre of the one would be joined by a line drawn along the centre of the other.

5. The number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each such electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such electoral area.

6. The number of the said members to be elected for each such electoral area who are to be aldermen shall be the number set out in the fourth column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such electoral area.

Number One

That part of the Borough consisting of the West Ward, the areas described in Part I and paragraph 2 of Part II of the Schedule to the Order of 1955, that part of the area described in the First Schedule to the Order of 1966 which is situated north of a line drawn along the road leading from Waterford to Portlaw (which road runs along the southern boundary of Cleaboy townland) and that part of the South Ward situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of Mayor's Walk with Barrack Street, thence proceeding in a south-westerly direction along Barrack Street to its junction with Morrison's Road, thence in a north-westerly direction along Morrison's Road to its junction with the northern boundary of the South Ward, thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along the said ward boundary to the starting point.

Number Two

That part of the Borough consisting of the Tower Ward, Custom House Ward, the area described in paragraph 1 of Part II of the Schedule to the Order of 1955 and the Centre Ward except the part thereof situated within a line line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of the boundary of the Centre Ward with the centre of the western end of Patrick Street, thence commencing in a southerly direction and proceeding along the said ward boundary to its junction with the centre of the eastern end of Patrick Street, thence along Patrick Street to the starting point.

Number Three

The Borough except the parts thereof comprised in the Number One and Number Two Electoral Areas.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order divides the County Borough of Waterford into three electoral areas for the purposes of local elections and specifies the number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each area and the number of these members who are to be aldermen.
