BRUCELLOSIS IN CATTLE (CLEARANCE AREA) (GENERAL PROVISIONS) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1966.

I, CHARLES J. HAUGHEY, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, it appearing to me to be necessary for the purpose of the progressive eradication of brucellosis in cattle, do hereby, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), order as follows :

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Brucellosis in Cattle (Clearance Area) (General Provisions) (Amendment) Order, 1966.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of December, 1966.

2. The Brucellosis in Cattle (Clearance Area) (General Provisions) Order, 1966 ( S.I. No. 120 of 1966 ), shall be amended as follows :

(a) the following is hereby substituted for Article 4—

" 4. (1) An animal in the area shall not be vaccinated with anti-abortion vaccine except with the permission in writing of the Minister.

(2) The Minister may in giving a permission under this Article specify in the permission any condition including a condition that a particular type of vaccine shall be used in the vaccination.

(3) A condition specified in any permission given under this Article shall be complied with."; and

(b) in Article 5 the following paragraphs are hereby inserted after paragraph (2)—

"(3) Where a sample has been taken from an animal in a herd, the animal shall not be moved out of the herd, except under permit under this Article, until the test has been completed and the owner or person in charge of the animal has been informed of the result of the test.

(4) An inspector of the Minister or an authorised officer may issue permits for the purposes of this Article and such inspector or officer may in issuing a permit specify in the permit any condition.

(5) A condition specified in any permit issued under this Article shall be complied with."

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order by amending the Brucellosis in Cattle (Clearance Area) (General Provisions) Order, 1966 provides that in the Clearance Area (i) the Minister may specify conditions including the type of vaccine to be used when giving permission for the vaccination of cattle against brucellosis and (ii) an animal being tested for brucellosis may not be moved out of the herd, except under permit, until the owner has been informed of the result of the test.
