OIREACHTAS (ALLOWANCES TO MEMBERS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1965.

I, JOHN LYNCH, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Act, 1962 (No. 32 of 1962), hereby make the following regulations:

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Regulations, 1965.

(2) The Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Regulations, 1963 and 1964, and these Regulations may be cited together as the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Regulations, 1963 to 1965.

2. The restrictions contained in paragraphs(c)and(d)of Regulation 5 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Regulations, 1963 ( S.I. No. 4 of 1963 ), as amended by the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Regulations, 1963 ( S. I. No. 276 of 1963 ), and the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Regulations, 1964 ( S.I. No. 50 of 1964 ), shall, as respects members of Dáil Éireann, have effect subject to the following qualifications :

(i) where, in any particular week which is part of a period of not less than two weeks during the whole of which Dáil Éireann stands adjourned, the member concerned applies for the issue to him of not more than fifty envelopes, he may request that all or a specified number of them shall be Official Paid envelopes,

(ii) where, in any particular week (not being a week of the kind referred to in subparagraph (i) of this paragraph) the member concerned applies for the issue to him of not more than twenty envelopes, he may request that all or a specified number of them shall be Official Paid envelopes,

(iii) where, in any particular week which is part of a period of not less than two weeks during the whole of which Dáil Éireann stands adjourned, the member applies for the issue to him of more than fifty envelopes, he may request that a specified number, not exceeding fifty, of them shall be Official Paid envelopes,

(iv) where, in any particular week (not being a week of the kind referred to in subparagraph (iii) of this paragraph) the member concerned applies for the issue to him of more than twenty envelopes,he may request that a specified number, not exceeding twenty, of them shall be Official Paid envelopes,

(v) Official Paid envelopes shall be issued in accordance with any such request and they may be posted by the member himself.

3. The qualifications specified in paragraph 2 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Regulations, 1964 ( S.I. No. 50 of 1964 ), shall cease to have effect in relation to members of Dáil Éireann.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These regulations increase from twenty to fifty the maximum number of Official Paid envelopes issuable to a member of the Dáil each week during periods when the Dáil stands adjourned for a period of not less than two weeks.
