PIGS AND BACON ACTS 1935 TO 1961 (PIGS AND BACON COMMISSION) REGULATIONS (NO. 1) 1965.

The Pigs and Bacon Commission in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Section 24 of the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act 1961 (No. 14 of 1961) and with the consent of the Minister for Agriculture hereby make the following Regulations:—

PART I

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Pigs and Bacon Acts 1935 to 1961 (Pigs and Bacon Commission) Regulations (No. 1) 1965, and shall come into operation on the 7th day of June, 1965.

2. (i) In these Regulations:—

"the Minister " means the Minister for Agriculture.

"other duly authorised Officer" means a person appointed under Section 48 of the Pigs and Bacon Act 1935 (No. 24 of 1935) or an authorised officer of the Commission working with the knowledge and consent of the Veterinary Examiner.

(ii) "Authorised Officer of the Commission" has the same meaning as in the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act, 1939 (No. 35 of 1939).

PART II

3. Bacon sold to the Commission under Section 23 of the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act 1961 shall have been produced in accordance with the provisions of the Pigs and Bacon Act 1935 (Part II) Regulations 1965 made by the Minister on the 17th day of May, 1965 and in particular the provisions of the sixth and seventh Schedules of the said Regulations shall apply as if they formed part of these Regulations in addition to the matters hereinafter set out.

(i) The neck shall be cut straight across at right angles to the side.

(ii) (a) In baling, Bacon Tallies shall be used on which the weight of the bale shall be shown in pounds. These tallies shall be of wood or aluminium or of other material approved by the Commission. One tally shall be placed inside the bale and another on the outside of the bale at one end.

(b) Salt tablets only shall be used in shoulder pockets of the bacon.

(iii) The bacon shall be strip-marked or branded in such a manner as may, from time to time, be notified in writing by the Commission to licensed bacon curers.

(iv) Subject to the provisions of the Sixth Schedule of the Pigs and Bacon Act, 1935 (Part II) Regulations 1965, the packing of bacon for export shall comply with such other requirements as may from time to time be notified in writing by the Commission to licensed bacon curers.

(v) The bacon shall be of such weight, grade and measurements as may be prescribed from time to time in External Sales Orders made by the Commission.

4. Any requirement which is set out in the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Schedules of the Pigs and Bacon Act 1935 (Part II) Regulations 1965 and which does not refer specifically to the Minister or the Veterinary Examiner or other duly authorised officer shall have effect subject to the proviso, that without prejudice to compliance therewith otherwise, compliance therewith to the satisfaction of the Veterinary Examiner or other duly authorised officer shall be sufficient.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order relates to the preparation of bacon sold by Licensed Bacon Curers to the Pigs and Bacon Commission under Section 23 of the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act, 1961 .
