S.I. No. 97/1962 - Garda Síochána (Promotion) Regulations, 1962


I, CHARLES J. HAUGHEY, Minister for Justice, with the approval of the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 14 of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925 (No. 7 of 1925), hereby make the following regulations:

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Garda Síochána (Promotion) Regulations, 1962.

(2) The Principal Regulations and these Regulations may be cited together as the Garda Siochana (Promotion) Regulations, 1960 and 1962.

2. In these Regulations " the Principal Regulations " means the Garda Síochána (Promotion) Regulations, 1960 ( S.I. No. 203 of 1960 ).

3. Regulations 5, 8 and 10 of the Principal Regulations are hereby amended by the substitution in each case of the following subparagraph for subparagraph (b) of paragraph (1):

" (b) if he joined the Garda Síochána on or after the 1st day of June, 1959—he has passed the Irish Proficiency Test."

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Garda Síochána (Promotion) Regulations, 1960, prescribed the Irish Proficiency Test as a qualifying promotional examination for members who joined the Force after the 1st January, 1943. The new Regulations substitute 1st June, 1959, for that date.
