FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE (IMPORTATION OF PLANTS) ORDER, 1962.

I, PATRICK SMITH, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 4 of the Agriculture Act, 1931 (No. 8 of 1931), and section 49 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1894, hereby order as follows :

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Foot and Mouth Disease (Importation of Plants) Order, 1962.

(2) The Foot and Mouth Disease (Importation of Plants) Order, 1952 ( S.I. No. 134 of 1952 ), and this Order may be cited together as the Foot and Mouth Disease (Importation of Plants) Orders, 1952 and 1962.

(3) This Order shall come into operation in the 1st day of February, 1962.

2. The Foot and Mouth Disease (Importation of Plants) Order, 1952, shall have effect subject to the insertion of " but does not include dried canes without roots, bamboo tapers, raffia, whisk tops, dried teazles, dried seagrass, willow sticks, golden rushes, broom corn, or timber without roots attached " after " and plants " in Article 3.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of this Order is to exclude the items enumerated in paragraph 2 from the definition of the word " plants " in the Foot and Mouth Disease (Importation of Plants) Order, 1952 and to make it unnecessary to apply for a licence under that Order for the importation of these products.
