BOVINE TUBERCULOSIS (ATTESTED AREA) (AMENDMENT) (No. 4) ORDER, 1961.

I, PATRICK SMITH, Minister for Agriculture, it appearing to me to be necessary for the purpose of the progressive eradication of bovine tuberculosis and being satisfied that bovine tuberculosis is virtually non-existent in such area as consists of the administrative counties of Cavan, Longford, Monaghan and that part of the administrative county of Westmeath lying west of the River Inny, do hereby, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 22 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1894, and section 2 of the Diseases of Animals (Bovine Tuberculosis) Act, 1957 (No. 14 of 1957), as amended by section 5 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1960 (No. 26 of 1960), order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Bovine Tuberculosis (Attested Area) (Amendment) (No. 4) Order, 1961.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 29th day of July, 1961.

2. (1) Article 3 of the Bovine Tuberculosis (Attested Area) Order, 1960 ( S.I. No. 236 of 1960 ), as amended by the Orders specified in the next paragraph, is hereby further amended by the insertion after "west of the River Shannon" of "and the administrative counties of Cavan, Longford, Monaghan and that part of the administrative county of Westmeath lying west of the River Inny".

(2) The Orders referred to in the foregoing paragraph are the Bovine Tuberculosis (Attested Area) (Amendment) Order, 1961 ( S.I. No. 9 of 1961 ), the Bovine Tuberculosis (Attested Area) (Amendment) (No. 2) Order, 1961 ( S.I. No. 17 of 1961 ), and the Bovine Tuberculosis (Attested Area) (Amendment) (No. 3) Order, 1961 ( S.I. No. 29 of 1961 ).

3. The Bovine Tuberculosis (Clearance Area) (Cavan and Monaghan) Order, 1959 ( S.I. No. 117 of 1959 ), the Bovine Tuberculosis (Clearance Area) (Longford) Order, 1960 ( S.I. No. 55 of 1960 ), the Bovine Tuberculosis (Clearance Areas) (Westmeath) Order, 1960 ( S.I. No. 56 of 1960 ), and the Bovine Tuberculosis (Clearance Area) (Special Controls) Order, 1961 ( S.I. No. 65 of 1961 ), are hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order, by extending the provisions of the Bovine Tuberculosis (Attested Area) Order, 1960, declares the administrative counties of Cavan, Longford, Monaghan and that part of the administrative county of Westmeath lying west of the River Inny to be an Attested Area, i.e. an area in which the Minister is satisfied that bovine tuberculosis is virtually non-existent, with effect from 29th July, 1961. It also (1) prohibits the tuberculin testing of cattle, except with the permission of the Minister, (2) prohibits movement of cattle into the area, except under permit and specifies the classes of cattle for which such permits shall be granted, (3) regulates movement of cattle into and out of herds, (4) controls public sales of cattle in the area and (5) provides for the disposal of reactors.
