SOCIAL WELFARE (MODIFICATIONS OF INSURANCE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1959.

I, SEÁN MACENTEE, Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952) and by section 12 of the said Act as amended by section 3 of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1956 (No. 24 of 1956) hereby make the following Regulations with the sanction of the Minister for Finance :—

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1959.

(2) The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 ( S.I. No. 236 of 1956 ), and these Regulations shall be construed as one and may be cited collectively as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 and 1959.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 26th day of January, 1959.

3. The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956, shall be amended by the substitution for Article 7 thereof of the following :—

"7. In the case of persons employed in either of the employments specified in paragraphs 6 and 7 of Part I of the First Schedule to the Act, the provisions of the Acts in their application shall be modified by the insertion immediately after the expression "domestic service" in paragraph 3 of the Second Schedule to the Act of the following words :—

'or in the employments specified in paragraphs 6 and 7 of Part I of the First Schedule to this Act, whether in one or more of such employments, and in case the employment is of a male employed contributor and is mainly in one or both of the employments specified in the said paragraphs 6 and 7 (not being employment as a weaver),' "

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 ( S.I. No. 236 of 1956 ) by providing that as from the 26th January, 1959 male weavers employed as outworkers will be insurable at the ordinary rate of contribution instead of at a reduced rate.
