GAS METERS (STAMPS) REGULATIONS, 1958.

I, SEÁN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (1) of section 5 of the Gas Regulation Act, 1928 (No. 24 of 1928), hereby make the following regulations :—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Gas Meters (Stamps) Regulations, 1958.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1959.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

3. In these Regulations " inspector " means an inspector of meters under the Sale of Gas Act, 1859.

4. Every meter shall be stamped in the following form and design, the upper figures therein corresponding to the number of the inspector's area and the lower figures indicating the year of stamping :

5. The material of which stamps are made under these Regulations shall be hard steel or such other material as may be approved by the Minister for Industry and Commerce.

6. The Gas Meters (Stamps) Regulations, 1949 ( S.I. No. 307 of 1949 ), are hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations alter the design of the stamp of verification to be impressed upon gas meters (in pursuance of Section 9 of the Sale of Gas Act, 1859, as amended by Section 4 of the Gas Regulation Act, 1928 ) as from 1st January, 1959.
