EXTERNAL-SALES (No. 4) ORDER, 1958.

In exercise of the powers conferred on them by Section 30 of the Pigs and Bacon Act, 1937 (No. 23 of 1937) as amended by Section 9 of the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act, 1956 (No. 37 of 1956) the Pigs and Bacon Commission hereby orders as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the External-Sales (No. 4) Order, 1958.

2. For the purposes of this Order the period commencing on the 28th day of April, 1958, and ending on the 10th day of May, 1958, shall be an external-sale period.

3. The external-sales quota of bacon in respect of the external-sale period specified in the preceding clause shall :—

(a) relate to bacon conforming to the requirements specified in clause 4 hereof ;

(b) be 60 per cent. by weight of the Grade " A " carcases of bacon pigs as defined in the Pigs and Bacon Acts, 1935 to 1940 (Pigs and Bacon Commission) Regulations (No. 2) Order, 1955, as amended by the Pigs and Bacon Acts, 1935 to 1940 (Pigs and Bacon Commission) Regulations (Amendment) (No. 1) Order, 1956, slaughtered at licensed premises during the period commencing on the 14th day of April, 1958, and ending on the 26th day of April, 1958 ;

(c) be related to Grade " A " carcases of bacon pigs in the manner specified in clause 5 hereof.

4. The bacon to which this Order relates shall conform to the following requirements as regards quality and description :—

(a) Wiltshire sides cut and trimmed according to good trade practice, of an ex-factory net weight of not less than 46 lb. and not more than 65 lb. of a quality and in a condition suitable for the best retail trade, and conforming to the following measurements of the exterior back fat including rind, viz. :—

(i) Where the back fat is widest on the shoulder.

2 inches.

(ii) At the top of the muscle which curves out over the loin into the fat.

1 and 3-16th inches.

(iii) The centre of the middle (i.e. midway between points i and ii) and for seven centimetres on either side of the point of measurement.

1 and 3-16th inches.

Minimum Measurement

(iv) The centre of the middle (as at iii above).

¾th inch.

(b) Backs, Middles, Shoulderless Sides and Spencers (Gammonless Sides) cut and trimmed according to good trade practice, of a quality and in a condition suitable for the best retail trade and derived from Grade " A " carcases of bacon pigs as defined in the Pigs and Bacon Acts, 1935 to 1940 (Pigs and Bacon Commission) Regulations (No. 2) Order, 1955, as amended by the Pigs and Bacon Acts, 1935 to 1940 (Pigs and Bacon Commission) Regulations (Amendment) (No. 1) Order, 1956.

5. For the purposes of sub-clause (c) of clause 3, every Grade " A " carcase shall be taken to represent 1 cwt. of bacon.

6. A Licensee may export the said bacon to any country.

7. Every Licensee shall furnish to the Commission particulars of the quantity of bacon to which this Order applies exported by him during said external-sale period.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order appoints, in respect of the period commencing on 28th April, 1958, and ending on 10th May, 1958, an external-sales quota of bacon equivalent to 60 per cent. by weight, of the Grade " A " carcases of bacon pigs slaughtered at licensed premises during the period from 14th April, 1958, to 26th April, 1958.
