CUSTOMS-FREE AIRPORT (EXTENSION OF LAWS) REGULATIONS, 1958.

I, SEÁN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 13 of the Customs-free Airport Act, 1947 (No. 5 of 1947), with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the following regulations :

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Customs-free Airport (Extension of Laws) Regulations, 1958.

2. The Exchange Control (Amendment) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 40 of 1958 ), and the Exchange Control (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 59 of 1958 ), shall extend to the Customs-free Airport.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations extend to the Customs-free Airport, the Exchange Control (Amendment) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 40 of 1958 ) and the Exchange Control (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 59 of 1958 ).The Exchange Control (Amendment) Regulations, 1958, amend the Exchange Control Regulations, 1955 by adding Austrian schillings to the list of specified currencies, which may be accepted in payment for exports and must be offered for sale to an authorised dealer; by including Ghana and Malaya in the Scheduled Territories; by increasing from £25 to £100, the exempted amount of foreign currency notes which may be exported by travellers to destinations outside Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man; and by simplifying Exchange Control procedure relating to the purchase of goods originating outside the Scheduled Territories and the export of goods to destinations outside those territories.

The Exchange Control (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1958 grant a general exemption from the prohibition imposed by section 15 (2) of the Exchange Control Act, 1954 , on the importation of British and Northern Ireland currency notes from places outside Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
