GARDA SIOCHANA (RETIREMENT) REGULATIONS, 1958.

I, OSCAR TRAYNOR, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 14 of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925 (No. 7 of 1925), hereby, with the approval of the Government, make the following regulations :

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1958.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

3. The Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1955 ( S.I. No. 157 of 1955 ), shall have effect as if there were addedthe end of subparagraph (a) of paragraph 4 " or the 1916 Medal or the Service (1917/1921) Medal with Bar ".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1955, raised from 63 to 65 years the age of compulsory retirement of Garda Chief Superintendents and Superintendents who hold a Military Service Certificate. The present regulations grant a similar extension to Chief Superintendents or Superintendents who do not hold such a certificate but who have been awarded the 1916 Medal or the (1917/1921) Medal with Bar.
