IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (MISCELLANEOUS SUSPENSIONS) ORDER, 1957.

I, SÉAMUS Ó RIAIN, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Imposition of Duties Act. 1957 (No. 7 of 1957), and with the consent of the Minister for Industry and Commerce, hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (Miscellaneous Suspensions) Order, 1957.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1958.

3.—(1) The duty of customs imposed by each enactment mentioned in the second column of the First Schedule to this Order, shall not be charged or levied on articles referred to in the third column of that Schedule opposite the mention of such enactment.

(2) Where, at anytime before the date on which the duty of customs imposed by an enactment mentioned in the second column of the First Schedule to this Order became chargeable, a duty of customs was chargeable in respect of the articles referred to in the third column of that Schedule opposite the mention of such enactment, paragraph (1) of this Article shall not be construed as reviving the latter duty as so chargeable.

(3) Where any ingredient, other than spirits, is contained in or was used in the manufacture or preparation of any article referred to at reference number 7 in the third column of the First Schedule to this Order and such ingredient is itself liable to a duty of customs, that duty of customs shall not be chargeable in respect of such ingredient where such article is imported on or after the 1st day of January, 1958.

4.—(1) The duty of customs imposed by each order mentioned in the second column of the Second Schedule to this Order shall not be charged or levied.

(2) Where at any time before the date on which the duty of customs imposed by an order mentioned in the second column of the Second Schedule to this Order became chargeable, a duty of customs was chargeable in respect of articles to which such order relates, paragraph (1) of this Article shall not be construed as reviving the latter duty as so chargeable.

Certain cushions and cushioned seats and certain cases for such cushions and cushioned seats.

Finance (Customs Duties) (No. 4) Act, 1932 (No. 34 of 1932), section 1 and reference number 16 in the First Schedule as amended by subsequent enactments.

The articles mentioned in the second column of the said First Schedule at the said reference number 16 as amended other than the articles mentioned in paragraphs (a) and (b) and subparagraphs (1), (21), (22), (26), (31), (32), (40 and (49) of paragraph (d) in the said second column at the said reference number 16 as amended.

Certain articles made wholly or partly of wood and component parts thereof.

Finance Act, 1933 (No. 15 of 1933), section 4 and reference number 12 in Part I of the First Schedule as amended by subsequent enactments.

The articles mentioned in the second column in the said Part I of the said First Schedule at the said reference number 12 as amended, other than articles of the following description, namely, empty milk cans of a capacity not exceeding 12 gallons and of a description commonly used for the conveyance or storage of milk in liquid form; excluding articles which are designed for use as air-tight containers.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of the above Order is to continue as from 1st January, 1958, the period of suspension of certain Customs duties which were suspended to 31st December, 1957.
