FACTORIES ACT, 1955 (COMMENCEMENT OF SECTIONS 34 AND 35) ORDER, 1957.

I, SEÁN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (3) of section 1 of the Factories Act, 1955 (No. 10 of 1955), and it having been shown to my satisfaction that the coming into operation of certain requirements of Part III of the said Act should be postponed, hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Factories Act, 1955 (Commencement of Sections 34 and 35) Order, 1957.

2. The date of coming into operation of section 34 and section 35 of the Factories Act, 1955 (No. 10 of 1955) (which provisions are applied to building operations by section 88 of that Act and the date of coming into operation of which was, by the Factories Act, 1955 (Commencement of Sections 34 and 35) Order, 1956 ( S.I. No. 162 of 1956 ), postponed until the 1st day of January, 1958) is hereby further postponed until the 1st day of October, 1958.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order extends for a further period of nine months, the postponement of the application of Sections 34 and 35 of the Factories Act to building operations effected by S.I. No. 162 of 1956 .

The purpose of the postponement is to allow time within which to bring into force Special Regulations for building operations. The regulations will, inter alia, adapt these two sections so as to bring their requirements into line with the special conditions obtaining in the building industry.
