DUBLIN AND CORK TAXIMETER AREAS FARE (No. 2) ORDER, 1957.

I, SEÁN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939), as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942) (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946) ), hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Dublin and Cork Taximeter Areas Fare (No. 2) Order, 1957.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of August, 1957.

3. This Order applies to the areas to which the following bye-laws relate :—

(a) the Dublin Taximeter Area Fare Bye-Laws, 1955 ( S.I. No. 132 of 1955 ) ;

(b) the Cork Taximeter Area Fare Bye-Laws, 1955 ( S.I. No. 133 of 1955 ).

4. The fare which may lawfully be charged for the hire of a street service vehicle hired in an area to which this Order applies shall be in accordance with the relevant bye-laws, with the following additions :

(a) a charge, to be known as a " hiring charge ", of sixpence for each hiring, irrespective of the number of passengers ;

(b) a charge of sixpence for each passenger (excluding infants in arms) beyond one, for the whole or part of the journey, instead of the charge for each such passenger beyond two as specified in the bye-laws.

5. For the purpose of paragraph (b) of Article 4, one or two children under the age of ten years shall count as one passenger, three or four as two passengers, and so on.

6. The owner of every street service vehicle to which this Order applies shall cause a notice in the form of the Schedule to this Order to be exhibited on the taximeter or in the same manner as the notice prescribed by the relevant bye-laws.

7. The Dublin and Cork Taximeter Fare Order, 1957 ( S.I. No. 97 of 1957 ), is hereby revoked.

SCHEDULE.

DUBLIN AND CORK TAXIMETER AREAS FARE (NO. 2) ORDER, 1957.

Extra payments for each hiring :

(a) hiring charge

6d.

(b) for each passenger beyond one

6d.

Note : Infants in arms do not count. One or two children under ten years count as one, three or four count as two, and so on.

Explanatory Note.

This instrument provides that the fare which may lawfully be charged for the hire of a street service vehicle hired in the Dublin and Cork taximeter areas shall be in accordance with the relevant bye-laws, subject to :

(i) an additional charge of sixpence for each hiring, irrespective of the number of passengers, and

(ii) a charge of sixpence for each additional passenger (excluding infants in arms) beyond one for whole or part of the journey, instead of for each additional passenger beyond two as provided in the bye-laws.
