S.I. No. 22 of 1957.

DAIL EIREANN GENERAL ELECTION ORDER, 1957.

WHEREAS by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Electoral (Amendment) Act, 1927 (No. 21 of 1927), it is enacted that at a general election the poll shall be held on such day not being earlier than the sixth nor later than the fourteenth day after the last day for receiving nominations as the Minister for Local Government shall appoint :

AND WHEREAS on the 12th day of February, 1957, a proclamation was issued dissolving Dáil Éireann :

AND WHEREAS under the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 18 of the Electoral Act, 1923 (No. 12 of 1923), the last day for receiving nominations at the general election to be held as a consequence of the said proclamation is the 21st day of February, 1957 :

NOW THEREFORE, the Minister for Local Government, in exercise of the powers vested in him by the said sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Electoral (Amendment) Act, 1927 , hereby appoints and orders as follows :—

1. The 5th day of March, 1957, shall be the day on which at the said general election the poll shall be held in all constituencies.

2. This Order may be cited as the Dáil Éireann General Election Order, 1957.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order fixes 5th March, 1957 as the day for the holding of a general election in consequence of the dissolution of Dáil Éireann.
