S.I. No. 323/1956 - Garda Síochána Allowances Order, 1956.


I, JAMES EVERETT, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 12 of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925 (No. 7 of 1925), and after due compliance with subsection (2) of the said section 12, hereby, with the sanction of the Minister for Finance, order as follows :

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Garda Siochana Allowances Order, 1956.

(2) The Garda Síochána Allowances Orders, 1947 to 1955, and this Order may be cited together as the Garda Síochána Allowances Orders, 1947 to 1956.

2. This Order shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of November, 1955.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

4. (1) The Garda Síochána Allowances (Consolidation) Order, 1947 ( S. R. & O. No. 167 of 1947 ), is hereby amended—

(i) by the substitution for Article 14 of the following Article :

" 14. An allowance at the rate of 35/6d. per month shall be paid to—

(a) members of the Force wholly employed as drivers or mechanics in the Motor Transport Section,

(b) members of the Force wholly employed as drivers of official cars at district headquarters,

(c) drivers for the Detective Units stationed throughout the country " ; and

(ii) by the substitution in paragraph (1) of Article 16 of " £177 " for " £169 " (inserted by the Garda Síochána Allowances Order, 1953 ( S.I. No. 258 of 1953 ) ).

(2) Paragraphs (1) and (2) of Article 7 of the Garda Síochána Allowances Order, 1953, are hereby revoked.
