CHAINS, ROPES AND LIFTING TACKLE (REGISTER) REGULATIONS, 1956.

I, WILLIAM NORTON, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in pursuance of paragraph (g) of subsection (1) of section 34 of the Factories Act, 1955 (No. 10 of 1955), hereby make the following regulations :—

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Chains, Ropes and Lifting Tackle (Register) Regulations, 1956.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1956.

2. The register required by paragraph (g) of subsection (1) of section 34 of the Factories Act, 1955 (No. 10 of 1955), to be kept with respect to all chains, ropes or lifting tackle, (except fibre rope slings) used for the purpose of raising or lowering persons, goods or materials shall contain the following particulars :

(a) name of occupier of factory ;

(b) address of factory ;

(c) distinguishing number or mark and description sufficient to identify the chain, rope or lifting tackle ;

(d) date (if after the 1st day of October, 1956) when the chain, rope or lifting tackle was first taken into use in the factory ;

(e) date of each examination made under paragraph (d) of subsection (1) of the said section 34 and by whom it was carried out ;

(f) particulars of any defect found and affecting the safe working load and of the steps taken to remedy such defect ;

(g) date and number of the certificate relating to any test and examination made under paragraph (e) of subsection (1) of the said section 34 together with the name and address of the person who issued the certificate ; and

(h) dates of annealing or other heat treatment.
