MOTOR SPIRIT (MAXIMUM PRICES) ORDER, 1956.

I, WILLIAM NORTON, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939) as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942) (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946)) hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Motor Spirit (Maximum Prices) Order, 1956.

2. References in this Order to selling shall be construed as including references to agreeing or offering to sell or to inviting an offer to buy.

3. Any fraction of a halfpenny in a price calculated in accordance with the provisions of this Order shall be regarded as one halfpenny.

4. The retail price at which Motor spirit may be sold shall not exceed the cost of the Motor Spirit to the retailer increased by 3½d. per gallon.

5. In this Order the expression " Motor Spirit " means any spirit which consists wholly or partly of hydrocarbon light oils as defined in sub-section (7) of section I of the Finance (Customs Duties) (No. 4) Act, 1931 (No. 43 of 1931), and which is suitable for the propulsion of a motor vehicle but does not include the following brands :—

BP Super

Caltex T.T. Premium

Esso Extra

Lobitos Premier Grade

Mex Plus

M.S. Super

Shell.

6. The Motor Spirit (Maximum Prices) Order, 1953 ( S.I. No. 40 of 1953 ) is hereby revoked.
