S.I. No. 85 of 1954.

VETERINARY SURGEONS (QUALIFYING DEGREES) ORDER, 1954.

WHEREAS the National University of Ireland and the University of Dublin each confer veterinary degrees :

AND WHEREAS the Minister for Agriculture is satisfied, after consultation with the Veterinary Council, that the courses of study leading to each degree have been pursued at a college or other institution approved by him for the purpose after consultation with the Council :

AND WHEREAS it appears to the Minister, after consultation with the Council, that the examinations for each degree are such as sufficiently to guarantee that holders of the degree will have acquired the knowledge and skill needed for the efficient practice of veterinary surgery, including veterinary medicine :

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 2 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act, 1952 (No. 18 of 1952), hereby order as follows :

1 Short title.

1. This Order may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons (Qualifying Degrees) Order, 1954.

2 Qualification of holders of veterinary degrees as veterinary surgeons.

2. Any person on whom is conferred—

(a) the degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (M.V.B.), or equivalent degree or degrees, granted by the National University of Ireland, or

(b) the degree of Bachelor in Veterinary Science (B.Sc. (Vet.) ), or equivalent degree or degrees, granted by the University of Dublin,

shall, on applying in the manner prescribed by regulations made by the Veterinary Council and paying the required fee, be registered in the Register of Veterinary Surgeons for Ireland.
