MATERNITY CASH GRANTS REGULATIONS, 1953.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 5 of the Health Act, 1947 (No. 28 of 1947), and Section 23 of the Health Act, 1953 (No. 26 of 1953), hereby makes the following regulations :—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Maternity Cash Grants Regulations, 1953.

2. The prescribed conditions for the purposes of paragraph (c) of subsection (1) of Section 23 of the Health Act, 1953 , shall be :

(a) that the woman shall have applied in writing to the health authority for a maternity cash grant within three months of the confinement, and

(b) that the woman shall have

(i) sent to the health authority a certificate in the form set out in the Schedule to these Regulations or in a form to the like effect, signed by a registered medical practitioner or a registered midwife who attended her either at or after the confinement, or

(ii) produced other evidence, to the satisfaction of the health authority, that the confinement took place.

SCHEDULE.

FORM OF CERTIFICATE RELATING TO CONFINEMENT

I, being a registered medical practitioner/registered midwife who attended her at or after her confinement, hereby certify that ........................ of ...................... in the county/county borough of ............... had a confinement within the meaning of Section 23* of the Health Act, 1953 , on the.......... day .................... of 19...., and that a child was born to her (a) after a period of pregnancy lasting not less than ............ weeks.

* This section defines a confinement as "labour resulting in the issue of a living child, or labour after twenty-eight weeks of pregnancy resulting in the issue of a child whether alive or dead."
