TRANSPORT ACT, 1944 (ALTERATION OF MAXIMUM RAILWAY CHARGES OF THE GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY COMPANY (IRELAND)) ORDER, 1953.

I, SEÁN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 89 of the Transport Act, 1944 (No. 21 of 1944), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Transport Act, 1944 (Alteration of Maximum Railway Charges of the Great Northern Railway Company (Ireland)) Order, 1953.

2. The maximum charges applicable to the Great Northern Railway Company (Ireland) for traffic by rail are hereby altered by the substitution of the charges set out in the Schedule to this Order for the appropriate charges at present in operation and the altered charges shall come into operation on the 19th day of March, 1953.

3. On the commencement of this Order the Transport Act, 1944 (Alteration of Maximum Railway Charges of the Great Northern Railway Company (Ireland)) Order, 1951 (Amendment) Order, 1952 ( S.I. No. 243 of 1952 ), shall cease to have effect.

SCHEDULE.

PART I.

Maximum railway charges applicable to the Great Northern Railway Company (Ireland) as modified and set out in the undermentioned pages of the Order of the Court of the Railway Tribunal dated 9th August, 1943, under the provisions of section 31 of the Railways Act, 1924 , and as amended by Statutory Instrument No. 255 of 1951 , dated 4th September, 1951, and Statutory Instrument No. 243 of 1952 , dated 18th August, 1952 :

Condition " A " referred to above :

In determining the amount to be added to the existing maximum charge fractions of one penny if less than one-half to be dropped, and if one-half or more to be charged as one penny.

Condition " B " referred to above :

In determining the amount to be added to the existing maximum charge fractions of ·01 of one penny if less than ·005 to be dropped, and if ·005 or more to be charged as ·01 of one penny.

The charges shown in the Transport Act, 1944 (Alteration of Maximum Railway Charges of the Great Northern Railway Company (Ireland)) Order, 1951 ( S.I. No. 255 of 1951 ) increased by 12½%, fractions of one penny if less than one half to be dropped and if one half or more to be charged as one penny.

(v) Scale of charges for the carriage of animal-drawn vehicles by Passenger Train or other similar service :

The charges shown in the Transport Act, 1944 (Alteration of Maximum Railway Charges of the Great Northern Railway Company (Ireland)) Order, 1951 ( S.I. No. 255 of 1951 ) increased by 12½%, fractions of one penny if less than one half to be dropped and if one half or more to be charged as one penny.

(viii) Scale of charges for the carriage of Corpses without hearse by Passenger Train or other similar service :

The charges shown in the Transport Act, 1944 (Alteration of Maximum Railway Charges of the Great Northern Railway Company (Ireland)) Order, 1951 ( S.I. No. 255 of 1951 ) increased by 12½%, fractions of one penny if less than one half to be dropped and if one half or more to be charged as one penny.

(ix) Scale of exceptional charges for the carriage at Owner's Risk of Tobacco and Cigarettes by Passenger Train or other similar service : Dublin with Navan, Ballybeg and Kells :

The charges shown in the Transport Act, 1944 (Alteration of Maximum, Railway Charges of the Great Northern Railway Company (Ireland)) Order, 1951 ( S.I. No. 255 of 1951 ) increased by 12½%, fractions of one penny if less than one half to be dropped and if one half or more to be charged as one penny.

(x) Exceptional charge for the carriage at Owner's Risk of Laundry by Passenger Train or other similar service : Dublin with Navan, Ballybeg and Kells :

The charge shown in the Transport Act, 1944 (Alteration of Maximum Railway Charges of the Great Northern Railway Company (Ireland)) Order, 1951 ( S.I. No. 255 of 1951 ) increased by 12½%, fractions of one penny if less than one half to be dropped and if one half or more to be charged as one penny.

(xi) Exceptional charges for the carriage at Owner's Risk of Bread in hampers and of returned empty bread hampers by Passenger Train or other similar service Dublin with Navan, Ballybeg and Kells :
