INFECTIOUS DISEASES (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1952.

The Minister for Health in exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Health Act, 1947 (No. 28 of 1947) hereby makes the following Regulations :—

1. In these Regulations the expression " the Principal Regulations " means the Infectious Diseases Regulations, 1948 ( S.I. No. 99 of 1948 ) ; the word " parrot " includes a cockatoo, parakeet, budgerigar or any other bird of the parrot species and other words and expressions shall have the same meaning as in the Principal Regulations.

2. No person shall import into the State any parrot unless such person is the holder of a permit granted by the Minister authorising the importation of such parrot and such parrot is imported under such permit and in accordance with such conditions as are specified in such permit.

3. Where a parrot has been imported in contravention of these Regulations it shall be forfeited and the proper officer of customs and excise shall notify the health authority of such importation and forfeiture.

4. Whenever a health authority receives under Article 3 of these Regulations a notification in respect of any parrot they shall cause such parrot to be destroyed under the supervision of the chief medical officer or authorised health officer, and such officer shall certify the fact of such destruction to the officer of customs and excise from whom such notification was so received.

5. For the purposes of these Regulations, a parrot which is transported by sea or air shall not, so long as it remains in the ship or aircraft in which it is so transported, be deemed to have been imported.

6. Article 22 of the Principal Regulations is hereby revoked.

7. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Regulations, 1952.

(2) These Regulations shall be construed as one with the Principal Regulations.
