FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE (IMPORTATION OF ANIMALS) ORDER, 1951.

I, PATRICK SMITH, acting Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the joint operation of the Agriculture Acts, 1931 to 1948, and the Diseases of Animals Acts, 1894 to 1949, and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Foot and Mouth Disease (Importation of Animals) Order, 1951.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937) applies to this Order.

3. It shall not be lawful to import from Great Britain, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or the Continent of Europe any animal unless such animal is imported under and in accordance with a licence in that behalf granted by the Minister for Agriculture and such licence is, at the time of importation, delivered to the proper Officer of Customs and Excise.

4. Nothing in this Order shall be construed as affecting the operation of the Orders set out in the Schedule to this Order.

5. For the purposes of the following sections of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1894, that is to say, sections 22, 25, 43, 44, 56, 65 and 74 and all other sections (including sections relating to offences and legal proceedings) containing provisions relative to or consequent on those sections, the word " animals " shall comprise all kinds of four-footed beasts.
