CANDLES (MAXIMUM PRICES) ORDER, 1951.

I, DANIEL MORRISSEY, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939), as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942) (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946)) and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Candles (Maximum Prices) Order, 1951.

2. References in this Order to selling shall be construed as including references to agreeing or offering to sell or to inviting an offer to buy.

3. Household candles shall not be sold except by weight.

4. For the purposes of this Order any fraction of a farthing shall be regarded as one farthing.

5. On and after the 7th day of March, 1951, the maximum price at which household candles may be sold shall not exceed a price calculated as follows :—

(a) When sold by a wholesale merchant—at the rate of four pounds four shillings per seventy-two pounds avoirdupois weight, inclusive of the cost of delivery to the railway station nearest to the premises of the purchaser, where quantities of seventy-two pounds weight and over are delivered in one consignment, but exclusive of cost of delivery where quantities less than seventy-two pounds weight are delivered in one consignment.

(b) When sold by a retail merchant—at the rate of one shilling and fivepence per pound avoirdupois weight.

6. The Candles (Maximum Prices) (No. 2) Order, 1949 ( S.I. No. 248 of 1949 ) is hereby revoked.
