DROGHEDA PILOTAGE ORDER, 1920 (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1950.

The Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 7 of the Pilotage Act, 1913, as adapted by or under subsequent enactments, and of every and any other power him in this behalf enabling, hereby orders as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Drogheda Pilotage Order, 1920 (Amendment) Order, 1950.

2. The Drogheda Pilotage Order, 1920, is hereby amended by the deletion of Article 4 and the substitution therefor of the following :

" 4.—(1) The Authority shall appoint a committee consisting of—

(a) six persons appointed from among their own members of whom one shall be nominated as chairman and of whom two shall be representative of ship owners, and

(b) two persons (in this Order referred to as pilot-members) who are licensed pilots for the time being, elected by the licensed pilots for the Pilotage District.

(2) Pilot members shall be elected as soon as may be after the making of this Order and thereafter in the month of January in every year.

(3) Pilot-members shall be elected in the following manner—

(a) the Secretary to the Authority shall send by registered post to all the licensed pilots for the Pilotage District a circular announcing that an election is to be held and enclosing a list of persons qualified to be pilot-members, a voting card and a stamped envelope addressed to himself in which the card when filled in is to be returned within twenty-one days of the issue of the circular ;

(b) every licensed pilot shall be entitled to vote for two persons whose names are on the said list but shall not give more than one vote for any one person ;

(c) at the expiration of twenty-one days from the issue of the said circular the Secretary shall examine the voting cards sent to him and shall prepare a list of the two persons who have secured the greatest number of votes (any uncertainty by reason of two or more persons havingsecured the same number of votes being decided in favour of the person or persons having the longest service as licensed pilot or pilots) and such persons shall thereupon be the pilot-members. The names of the said two persons shall be posted up in the pilot's office.

(4) The costs, charges and expenses of and preliminary and incidental to an election of pilot-members shall be paid by the Authority out of the Pilot Fund.

(5) A vacancy among the pilot-members arising otherwise than by effluxion of time shall be filled as soon as may be in the manner prescribed for an annual election, save that every licensed pilot shall be entitled to vote for one person only, and any person so elected shall hold office only until the next annual election."
