MERCHANT SHIPPING (RECOGNITION OF BRITISH CERTIFICATES OF COMPETENCY) ORDER, 1949.

WHEREAS the British Government provide for the holding of examinations for the grants of certificates of competency as masters, mates or engineers on board ship or as skippers or second hands on board fishing boats and the Minister for Industry and Commerce is satisfied that the certificates so granted are granted on such principles as to show qualifications of competency which are adequate qualifications for service in Irish ships :

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 7 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1947 (No. 46 of 1947), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Recognition of British Certificates of Competency) Order, 1949.

2. The Certificates referred to in the recital to this Order shall be of the same force within the State as if they had been granted by the Minister for Industry and Commerce under Part II or Section 414 (as the case may be) of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894.
