SEWING THREAD (MAXIMUM PRICES) ORDER, 1947.

I, SEAN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939) as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942) (which orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946)) and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows :—

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Sewing Thread (Maximum Prices) Order, 1947.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 27th day of March, 1947.

2. Reference in this Order to selling shall be construed as including references to agreeing or offering to sell or to inviting an offer to buy.

3.—(1) No person shall sell by wholesale any sewing cotton thread or sewing artificial silk thread of the description and under the conditions mentioned at any reference number in the Schedule hereto at a price exceeding a price calculated at the rate set out in the third column of the said Schedule at such reference number.

(2) No person shall sell by retail any sewing cotton thread or sewing artificial silk thread of the description and under the conditions mentioned at any reference number in the Schedule hereto at a price exceeding a price calculated at the rate set out in the fourth column of the said Schedule at such reference number.

4. No person shall sell sewing cotton thread or sewing artificial silk thread by retail except by linear measure.

5. Emergency Powers (Sewing Thread) (Maximum Prices) Order, 1943 (S. R. & O. No. 57 of 1943) and Emergency Powers (Sewing Thread) (Maximum Prices) Order, 1943 (Amendment) (No. 1) Order, 1943 (S. R. & O. No. 200 of 1943) are hereby revoked.

Sewing Cotton Thread or Sewing Artificial Silk Thread of any colour imported from outside the State, when sold in units not exceeding 500 yards on reel, card, cop or core, and sold :—

3 ½d. per 100 yards.

4 ½d. per 100 yards for units not exceeding 500 yards.

(a) With the manufacturer's label attached thereto stating the country of origin of the thread or indicating the country of origin by the name of the manufacturer or by the trade name, or

(b) With a label attached thereto by the importer stating his name and the country of origin.

Sewing Cotton Thread or Sewing Artificial Silk Thread of any kind sold under conditions other than those set out at reference number 1-9 inclusive.

1/8 per 1,200 yards.

2¼ per 100 yards.
