STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1947. No. 16.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC HEALTH (ALTERATION OF NAME OF DEPARTMENT AND TITLE OF MINISTER) ORDER, 1947.

WHEREAS it is enacted by subsection (1) of section 6 of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1939 (No. 36 of 1939) that it shall be lawful for the Government, whenever they so think proper, to do by order all or any of certain things mentioned in that subsection and, amongst others—

(a) to alter in such way as they think proper the name (whether in the Irish language or the English language or in both those languages) of any Department of State,

(b) to alter in such way as they think proper the title (whether in the Irish language or in the English language or in both those languages) of any Minister having charge of a Department of State, and

(c) to make all such adaptations as shall appear to the Government to be consequential on anything done by them under any of the foregoing paragraphs of the said sub-section (1):

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by subsection (1) of section 6 of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1939 (No. 36 of 1939), hereby order as follows :—

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Local Government and Public Health (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1947.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 22nd day of January, 1947.

2. The name of the Department of State, the present name whereof is, in the Irish language, an Roinn Rialtais Áitiúil agus Sláinte Poiblí and, in the English language, the Department of Local Government and Public Health, is hereby altered, in the Irish language, to that of an Roinn Rialtais Áitiúil and, in the English language, to that of the Department of Local Government.

3. The title of the Minister having charge of a Department of State, whose present title is, in the Irish language, an tAire Rialtais Áitiúilagus Sláinte Poiblí, and in the English language, the Minister for Local Government and Public Health, is hereby altered, in the Irish language, to that of an tAire Rialtais Áitiúilagus and, in the English language, to that of the Minister for Local Government.

4. In any enactment—

(a) references to the Department of Local Government and Public Health shall be construed as references to the Department of Local Government,

(b) references to the Minister for Local Government and Public Health shall be construed as references to the Minister for Local Government.
