STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1945. No. 57.

THE DUBLIN COUNTY BOROUGH (LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS) ORDER, 1945.

WHEREAS by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1945 , the Minister for Local Government and Public Health (hereinafter referred to as " the Minister ") is empowered by order—

(a) to make a new division of the County Borough of Dublin into electoral areas, and

(b) to assign to each such electoral area the number of members of the City Council to be elected therefor :

AND WHEREAS by sub-section (2) of the said section 3 it is made obligatory on the Minister to make an order under the said sub-section (1) before the election of members of the City Council held next after the passing of the said Act :

AND WHEREAS by sub-section (4) of the said section 3 it is provided that the electoral areas into which the County Borough of Dublin is divided by order under the said section 3 shall be five or more in number :

AND WHEREAS in assigning by this order the number of members to be elected for the electoral areas in this order specified the Minister has had regard to the populations and rateable valuations of the said areas :

NOW, THEREFORE, the Minister in exercise of the powers conferred on him by the said sub-section (1) of the said section 3 and in compliance with the said sub-section (2) and (3) of the said section 3 and in exercise of every other power enabling him in this behalf, hereby orders as follows, that is to say :—

1. The County Borough of Dublin shall be divided into the nine electoral areas set forth in the Schedule to this Order.

2. The number of members to be elected for each electoral area shall be five.

3. (1) Every reference in the Schedule to this Order to a road (by whatever name called), bridge, river or canal shall be construed as a reference to the line passing along the middle of such road, bridge, river or canal.

(2) In the Schedule to this Order the expression " the city boundary " means the boundary of the County Borough of Dublin at the date of this Order, and the expression " the Boundary of 1930 " means the boundary of the said county borough at the passing of the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930 (No. 27 of 1930).

4. This Order may be cited as the Dublin County Borough (Local Electoral Areas) Order, 1945.

SCHEDULE.

BOUNDARIES OF ELECTORAL AREAS.

Electoral Area No. 1.

The portion of the Country Borough within a line drawn from a starting point on the city boundary at the junction of Ballymun Road with Mobhi Road southward along Mobhi Road to Botanic Avenue, along Botanic Avenue to Glendalough Road, along Glendalough Road to Hollybank Road, along Hollybank Road to Shanganagh Road, along Shanganagh Road to Dargle Road, along Dargle Road to Lower Drumcondra Road, along Lower Drumcondra Road to Clonliffe Road, along Clonliffe Road to Ballybough Road, along Ballybough Road to the River Tolka, along the River Tolka to Annesley Bridge, thence straight to the point where the south-easterly fence of the Great Northern Railway meets the East Wall, thence along the city boundary to the North-East and back along the city boundary to the said starting point.

Electoral Area No. 2.

The portion of the County Borough within a line drawn from a starting point on the city boundary at the Breakwater Lighthouse north along the city boundary to the boundary of Electoral Area No. 1, west along the boundary of Electoral Area No. 1 to the boundary of Electoral Area No. 3, south along the boundary of Electoral Area No. 3 to Seán MacDermott Street, Upper, along Lower Gardiner Street to Beresford Place, south along Beresford Place to the River Liffey at Butt Bridge, east along the River Liffey to the city boundary and north and east along the city boundary to the said starting point.

Electoral Area No. 3.

The portion of the County Borough within a line including the portion of the city boundary on the Finglas Road and drawn thence southward along Finglas Road to Prospect Road, along Prospect Road to the Royal Canal, thence eastward along the said canal to its southerly branch and along the said branch to the eastern wall of the Public Library, along the said wall to the eastern boundary of Broadstone Park, along the said boundary to Constitution Hill, along Constitution Hill to Upper Church Street, along Upper Church Street and Church Street to the River Liffey, east along the River Liffey to a point opposite Arran Street, East, thence to and along Arran Street, East and Little Green Street to Little Britain Street, along Little Britain Street to Parnell Street, along Parnell Street to O'Connell Street, along O'Connell Street to Cathal Brugha Street, along Cathal BrughaStreet and Seán MacDermott Street Upper to Middle Gardiner Street, along Middle Gardiner Street, Mountjoy Square, West and Upper Gardiner Street to Dorset Street, Lower, along Dorset Street Lower to the boundary, of Electoral Area No. 1, north along the said boundary to the city boundary and west along the city boundary to Finglas Road.

Electoral Area No. 4.

The portion of the County Borough bounded on the east by the western boundary of Electoral Area No. 3, on the south by the River Liffey and on the north and west by the city boundary.

Electoral Area No. 5.

The portion of the County Borough within a line from a starting point where the River Liffey crosses the city boundary west of Chapelizod drawn south along the city boundary and following the city boundary to Kildare Road, along Kildare Road to the boundary of 1930 at Sundrive Road, south and north-east along the boundary of 1930 to the Grand Canal, along the Grand Canal to Dolphin's Barn, along Dolphin's Barn to Dolphin's Barn Street, along Dolphin's Barn Street to Cork Street, along Cork Street to Marrowbone Lane, along Marrowbone Lane to Pimlico, thence north-west along Thomas Court Bawn, Thomas Court and Bridgefoot Street to the River Liffey, thence along the River Liffey to the said starting point.

Electoral Area No. 6.

The portion of the County Borough bounded on the north by the River Liffey, on the west by the boundary of Electoral Area No. 5, on the south by the Grand Canal and on the east by a line starting at a point on the River Liffey opposite Fishamble Street and drawn south along Fishamble Street, Christ Church Place, East, Werburgh Street, Bride Street, Cross Kevin Street and Bride Street New to Camden Row, along Camden Row to Montague Street, along Montague Street to Harcourt Street, north along Harcourt Street to Stephen's Green, South, along Stephen's Green, South to Lower Leeson Street, and along Lower Leeson Street to the Grand Canal.

Electoral Area No. 7.

The portion of the County Borough bounded on the north by the southern boundaries of Electoral Area No. 5 and Electoral Area No. 6, on the west and south by the city boundary and on the east by a line starting at a point on the Grand Canal oppositeRanelagh Road and drawn south along Ranelagh Road to Mount Pleasant Place, along Mount Pleasant Place to Oxford Road, along Oxford Road to Charleston Road, along Charleston Road to Belgrave Square, East, along Belgrave Square, East, Belgrave Avenue and Palmerston Road, through Palmerston Park to Orchard Road, west along Temple Road to Dartry Road, thence straight in the same direction to the city boundary.

Electoral Area No. 8.

The portion of the County Borough within a line drawn from a starting point on the Grand Canal opposite Ranelagh Road, east along the said canal to Grand Canal Street, Upper, southeast along Grand Canal Street, Upper to Barrow Street, along Barrow Street to Ringsend Road, east along Ringsend Road to the River Dodder, north along the River Dodder to a point opposite York Road, along York Road and Pigeon House Road to Cambridge Avenue, along the south-east boundary of Ringsend Park to the coast, south along the coast to the point where the city boundary leaves the coast, west along the city boundary and north along the boundary of Electoral Area No. 7 to the said starting point.

Electoral Area No. 9.

The portion of the County Borough which is not included in any of the Electoral Areas hereinbefore sent forth.
