STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1940. No. 289.

CONTROL OF IMPORTS (QUOTA No. 16, SEVENTH PERIOD) ORDER, 1940.

WHEREAS it is enacted by subsection (2) of section 6 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, that so long as any particular quota order is in force the Government shall, during and not less than one month before the end of every quota period under such quota order, by order—

(a) appoint a period (beginning at the expiration of the said quota period) to be the next quota period under such quota order, and

(b) appoint a specified quantity of goods to which such quota order applies to be the quota for the purposes of the said Act in respect of the said next quota period :

AND WHEREAS by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 16, Sixth Period) Order, 1939 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 294 of 1939), the period beginning on the 1st day of November, 1939, and ending on the 31st day of October, 1940, was appointed to be the sixth quota period under the Control of Imports (Quota No. 16) Order, 1935 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 66 of 1935) :

AND WHEREAS by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 16) (Amendment) Order, 1935 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 606 of 1935), the said Control of Imports (Quota No. 16) Order, 1935, was amended by the exclusion of nitro-chalk from the prohibition of importation effected by paragraph 4 of the said Control of Imports (Quota No. 16) Order, 1935, and by the exclusion of nitro-chalk from the meaning of the expression " compound manures " in sub-paragraph (c) of paragraph 4 of that Order :

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by subsection (2) of section 6 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, do hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Control of Imports (Quota No. 16, Seventh Period) Order, 1940.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The period beginning on the 1st day of November, 1940, and ending on the 31st day of October, 1941, is hereby appointed to be the seventh quota period under the Control of Imports (Quota No. 16) Order, 1935 (which relates to superphosphates, ground mineral phosphates and compound manures).

4. Eighteen thousand tons of the articles to which the said Control of Imports (Quota No. 16) Order, 1935, applies shall be the quota in respect of the said seventh quota period.
