STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1940. No. 186.

CONTROL OF IMPORTS (QUOTA No. 34, EIGHTH PERIOD) ORDER, 1940.

WHEREAS it is enacted by sub-section (2) of section 6 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, that so long as any particular quota order is in force the Government shall, during and not less than one month before the end of every quota period under such quota order, by order—

(a) appoint a period (beginning at the expiration of the said quota period) to be the next quota period under such quota order, and

(b) appoint a specified quantity of goods to which such quota order applies to be the quota for the purposes of the said Act in respect of the said next quota period :

AND WHEREAS by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 34, Seventh Period) Order, 1939 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 174 of 1939), the period beginning on the 1st day of August, 1939, and ending on the 31st day of July, 1940, was appointed to be the seventh quota period under the Control of Imports (Quota No. 34) Order, 1937 (Statutory Rules and Orders No. 146 of 1937) :

AND WHEREAS the said Control of Imports (Quota No. 34) Order, 1937, was amended in certain respects by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 34) (Amendment) Order, 1938 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 176 of 1938), and by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 34) (Amendment) Order, 1939 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 173 of 1939) :

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sub-section (2) of section 6 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, do hereby order is follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Control of Imports (Quota No. 34, Eighth Period) Order, 1940.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937) applies to this Order.

3. The period beginning on the 1st day of August, 1940, and ending on the 31st day of July, 1941, is hereby appointed to be the eighth quota period under the Control of Imports (Quota No. 34) Order, 1937 (which, as amended, relates to certain electric filament lamps).

4. Thirty thousand articles to which the said Control of Imports (Quota No. 34) Order, 1937, as amended, applies shall be the quota in respect of the said eight quota period.
