STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1938. No. 5.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE GALWAY (INCREASE OF GRANT) ORDER, 1938.

WHEREAS it is enacted by sub-section (1) of section 2 of the University College Galway Act, 1929 (No. 35 of 1929), that there shall be paid to University College, Galway, out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas, the sum of twenty-eight thousand pounds in the financial year beginning on the 1st day of April, 1930, and in every subsequent financial year :

AND WHEREAS it is enacted by sub-section (2) of the said section that towards meeting further the cost of such measures as the said College may hereafter take with a view to increasing the proportion of instruction given through the medium of the Irish language, or making better provision for the study of the Irish language and literature, the Minister for Finance may, if and when he so thinks fit, by order made on the recommendation of the Minister for Education, increase the said sum of twenty-eight thousand pounds by such sum not exceeding two thousand pounds as shall be specified in such order, and the Minister for Finance may by any subsequent order similarly made further increase the said sum of twenty-eight thousand pounds but so that the amount of such increase together with all increases previously made under that sub-section shall not exceed the sum of two thousand pounds :

AND WHEREAS by virtue of the University College Galway (Increase of Grant) Order, 1932 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 3 of 1932), the said annual sum of twenty-eight thousand pounds was increased in respect of every financial year subsequent to the financial year commencing on the 1st day of April, 1931, by the sum of one thousand five hundred pounds :

AND WHEREAS the Minister for Education has recommended that the said sum of twenty-eight thousand pounds should be further increased in the manner hereinafter specified :

NOW, the Minister for Finance, on the recommendation of the Minister for Education, and in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sub-section (2) of section 2 of the University College Galway Act, 1929 (No. 35 of 1929), and of every and any other power him in this behalf enabling, hereby orders as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the University College Galway (Increase of Grant) Order, 1938.

2. In this Order, the expression " the annual sum " means the annual sum of twenty-eight thousand pounds payable under subsection (1) of section 2 of the University College Galway Act, 1929 No. (35 of 1929), to University College, Galway.

3. The annual sum payable in the financial year which commenced on the 1st day of April, 1937 (being the financial year current at the date of this Order) is hereby further increased by the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds.

4. The annual sum payable in every financial year subsequent to the financial year current at the date of this Order is hereby further increased by the sum of five hundred pounds.
