STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1936. No. 238.

CONTROL OF IMPORTS (QUOTA No. 31) ORDER, 1936.

WHEREAS it is enacted by section 3 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), that the Executive Council may at any time by order (in that Act called a quota order) prohibit, subject to the provisions of the said Act, the importation into Saorstát Eireann on or after a specified day (in that Act referred to as the commencement of such order) not prior to the date of such order of any particular description or descriptions of goods and that the Executive Council shall, in and by every quota order, appoint the day (not more than six weeks after the commencement of such order) on which the first quota period under such quota order shall commence :

NOW, the Executive Council, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 3 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, do hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Control of Imports (Quota No. 31) Order, 1936.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1923 (No. 46 of 1923), applies to the interpretation of this Order in like manner as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

3. In this Order the expression " the Act " means the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934).

4. Subject to the exceptions and qualifications mentioned in the next following paragraph of this Order the importation into Saorstát Eireann on or after the 28th of August, 1936, of electric filament lamps which are constructed for use in an electric circuit at not less than one hundred volts nor more than two hundred and fifty volts and consume not less than twenty watts nor more that five hundred watts and are fitted with a bayonet cap or a screw cap is hereby prohibited.

5. The prohibition effected by the next preceding paragraph of this Order shall not extend or apply to any electric filament lamp—

(a) which is fitted with a carbon filament, or

(b) which is cylindrical, or

(c) which is of the type commonly known as a candle lamp, or

(d) which is a gas discharge lamp, or

(e) which is, in the opinion of the Revenue Commissioners, designed, constructed and intended for use exclusively for scientific or for medical or surgical purposes, or

( f ) which is imported under and in accordance with a licence in that behalf issued under the Act, or

(g) to which this Order is precluded by sub-section (4) of section 3 of the Act from applying.

6. The 5th day of October, 1936, is hereby appointed to be the day on which the first quota period under this Order shall commence.
