STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1935. No. 33.

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF IRELAND (ADAPTATION OF CHARTER) ORDER, 1935.

WHEREAS it is enacted by sub-section (1) of Section 1 of the Adaptation of Charters Act, 1926 (No. 6 of 1926), that the Executive Council may from time to time by order make all such adaptations of and modifications in any Charter which by virtue of Article 73 of the Constitution has the force of law in Saorstát Eireann as are, in the opinion of the Executive Council, necessary in order to enable such Charter to have full force and effect in Saorstát Eireann :

AND WHEREAS the Charter of the National University of Ireland granted by His late Majesty King Edward the Seventh on the 2nd day of December in the eighth year of his reign has the force of law in Saorstát Eireann by virtue of Article 73 of the Constitution :

AND WHEREAS the adaptations of and modifications in the said Charter intended to be made by this Order are, in the opinion of the Executive Council, necessary in order to enable the said Charter to have full force and effect in Saorstát Eireann :

NOW, the Executive Council, in exercise of the power conferred on them by sub-section (1) of Section 1 of the Adaptation of Charters Act, 1926 (No. 6 of 1926), and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, do hereby order as follows, that is to say :—

1. This Order may be cited as the National University of Ireland (Adaptation of Charter) Order, 1935.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1923 (No. 46 of 1923), applies to the interpretation of this Order in like manner as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

3. The Charter of the National University of Ireland granted by His late Majesty King Edward the Seventh on the 2nd day of December in the eighth year of his reign is hereby adapted and modified as follow, that is to say :—

(a) in the Part of the said Charter entitled " IV—Visitor of the University, " by the insertion of the words " by the Executive Council of the Irish Free State " immediately after the words " Board of Visitors as we, " and

(b) in the same Part of the said Charter, by the insertion of the words " exerciseable through and by the Executive Council of the Irish Free State " immediately after the words " shall have the right, " and

(c) in the same Part of the said Charter, by the insertion of the words " by the said Executive Council " immediately after the words " as We or They. "
